Who we are
selfemployed.mt is run by Aftermath Ltd (company registration C110654, VAT MT31570511), 34 Mosta Road, St Paul’s Bay, Malta. Aftermath Ltd is the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us about your data at contact@selfemployed.mt. You can write to us at that address about anything in this notice.
selfemployed.mt is part of the Aftermath network. Your account lives in the shared Aftermath account system that our other services also use, so you can work on several Aftermath platforms with one verified profile.
What we collect
- Your account: name, email address and your password (stored only in scrambled, one-way form).
- Your onboarding answers: the work you offer, where you are based, your experience, and your confirmation that you are 18 or over and have the right to work in Malta.
- Your government registration: which Maltese card you hold, the official registration steps you tell us you have completed, your VAT number and type of VAT registration, and — if you hold a residence card — your tax number and social security number.
- Your office appointment: the date and time you book, any changes or cancellation, and notes our team makes at the meeting.
- Your documents: the files you upload, such as your ID card or passport, proof of your right to work, a police conduct certificate, licences and qualifications.
- Verification: the outcome of our document checks and interview, and notes our team makes during verification.
- Your work: the platforms you join, the jobs you complete and the earnings recorded for them.
- Assistant chats: messages you send to the in-app assistant and its replies. Email addresses, phone numbers and ID-like numbers are removed from your message before it is sent to the assistant.
- Your language: the language you use on the site, so our emails reach you in the same language.
- Security data: your IP address and browser information when you sign in, used to protect your account (for example to block repeated failed sign-ins).
Why we use it
- To create and run your account, guide you through setup, verify you and give you access to Aftermath platforms — this is needed to provide the service you asked for.
- To check documents such as a police conduct certificate where the work requires it, for the safety of the people you will work for — as required or permitted by Maltese law and our legitimate interest in a safe network.
- To record jobs and earnings and keep financial records — to meet our legal and tax obligations.
- To send you the emails the service needs — confirming your email address, password resets, appointment confirmations and changes, and our verification decisions. We do not send marketing emails.
- To keep the service secure and prevent misuse — our legitimate interest.
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who can see it
- The Aftermath Ltd staff who verify providers and run the service.
- The Aftermath platforms you choose to join — only what they need to offer you work (for example your name, verified status and the service you provide).
- Our service providers, who act only on our instructions: our web host in the European Union, and the computer servers in the European Union that run our in-house assistant.
- Public authorities, when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. After you close it, we keep only what we must for legal, tax or accounting reasons, or to deal with a claim, and only for as long as that requires. You can ask us to delete documents you no longer need us to hold.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data or close your account from the Account page, or write to contact@selfemployed.mt. You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive it in a portable format. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can complain to the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC) in Malta at idpc.org.mt.
Cookies
We use only the cookies the site needs to work:
- SELFSESS — keeps you signed in and protects forms. Deleted when you close your browser.
- se_lang — remembers the language you chose. Kept for one year.
Our typeface is served from our own website — your browser does not connect to Google or any other third party when you open our pages. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
